Freedom Bakery – Identity & Print
- Designer Joe Gallagher
The brief here was to create an identity and accompanying stationery for the Freedom Bakery in Glasgow.
Freedom Bakery is an inspiring and progressive business that helps people with prior convictions by teaching them baking skills and giving them work. It’s about giving ex-prisoners dignified work and rebuilding confidence for life after prison without the management of social services.
Going forward I wanted to make sure that the identity steered away from common baking tropes and was never too on-the-nose about prison.
I opted for a monogram style of design as it has connotations of being well established and respected. In the center is some wheat imagery which not only brings up ideas of hard work in agriculture but is symbolic of growing on the inside and flourishing.
The colours used are a royal oxford blue and wheat white. The blue displays respect, pride, and trust, while the white provides a hopeful light.
