Curios Gin – Identity & Packaging
- Designer Joe Gallagher
Curios is a bar/restaurant that challenged me to create an identity and range of bottles for their gin. Each individual bar across the UK wanted to sell a bespoke gin to their region inspired by their county – with mine being Norfolk. The gin would come in three flavours and be sold exclusively from across the bar.
I kept the identity versatile and luxurious to fit to the more expensive target market, the inspiration coming from the many videos I watched on gin production, and in particular the glasses they used to taste it in the distillery.
After some study I realised that there was no conversation to be had about Norfolk without taking a nod to their landscapes: The Broads, the agriculture, and the beaches. The county is also the nation’s leading bird-watching spot, so I minimally illustrated the 3 landscapes as birds-eye views.
Finally, as a student project, I did all the foiling at home on bespoke G.F. Smith paper. This finish led to a great texture and some inconsistent personal touches across the bottles. It was also a beautiful way to distinguish the three flavours while keeping them consistent.
